On the evening of March 31st, OPPO and Zhejiang TV jointly created the “Young Make the Future†spring festival and the OPPO R15 new product launch event. Before the press conference, we sneaked into the OPPO Industrial Park in Chang’an early in the morning and hoped to learn how an OPPO R15 was born.
R15 components are selected
The selection of raw materials is one of the first and most important stages in the production of mobile phones. Do you know how the various components of the R15 body are screened out? We first came to the OPPO Materials Laboratory.

Here, the selection of raw materials needs to go through four stages: selection review, design review, trial production review, and reliability testing. R15 will involve thousands of parts. When purchasing parts, OPPO will usually choose the best in the world. However, even if the products provided by each supplier are the same, they will undergo a very strict reliability test verification process.
These tests will be used to simulate the reliability of materials on mobile phones in different usage scenarios: environmental aging test (maximum temperature up to 100°C, minimum temperature -40°C), cosmetic testing, artificial sweat test, etc. There are battery tests that look very “violentâ€. OPPO will take electronic and structural materials under the microscope and carefully observe them through DPA disassembly and slicing. We have found that, in addition to the detection of mobile phone raw materials, mobile phone cases, terminal counter displays, tents for activities, umbrellas for the event, cups for promotional gifts, and schoolbags are required to undergo various tests conducted by the materials laboratory to ensure quality.

For R15, due to the use of two-sided glass body, gradient design, special-shaped screen, etc., the material certification of these new materials will be more stringent than ever. Take the lens edge as an example. If you look closely at the lens behind the R15, you will find that it is almost integrated into the body and the sense of unity is very strong. The perfect vision of the R15 lens edge requires three steps. The first step is to select the most suitable color from hundreds of colors. The second step is to plate the selected color to the edge of the lens due to the single-layer nano-coating effect. Far less than the OPPO's requirements for materials, so it needs to go through 7-layer treatment, which puts a huge test on cost and process; the third step also needs anti-fingerprint coating on the coating.

The birth of a motherboard
After all the raw materials have passed the test, they will be put into use. Making a mobile phone, the motherboard can be said to be its most important big piece. At the SMT (Surface Mount Technology Surface Mount Technology) Center, we witnessed the entire process of the R15 motherboard from a PCB board to a finished product.
The first process of the production line is to remove the dust and static electricity from the PCB board through the wiper to ensure the quality of the motherboard. The PCB is transported to the printer with solder paste, which is a mixture of gray metal powder – printed on the circuit board through a perforated stencil. (Printed solder paste is mainly used as a welding function, it is the component and the PCB board)
At present, the smallest device of the OPPO mobile phone motherboard is 0201 material, size 0.6 × 0.3mm, using the third-generation dual-track high-speed placement machine, you can paste a component every 0.2 seconds, 1 hour can mount 18000 materials, the daily production capacity of about 10000 about. It took 40 minutes for a board to mount on both sides. After passing all the inspection items, the bar code of the mobile phone's main board was swept into the MES system, which can be traced back to the detailed production information of the main board.
An employee disclosed to us: "The SMT workshop uses the world's most advanced manufacturing equipment. A total of 18 quality inspection procedures were set up to test the mobile motherboards to ensure the quality of the motherboards shipped to the final assembly. The entire SMT production line The set quality standards are at the top level in the industry and far exceed the national standards."
On the SMT production line, there is a corresponding inspection mechanism behind each process to ensure that defective products in the process do not flow into the next process. In addition, with the information management system (MES), it can collect and monitor various data in the production process in real time, and perform a systematic and comprehensive analysis of these data so that the production can make optimal adjustments. At the same time it realizes the digitization of the entire manufacturing process and can monitor and trace the components used on each motherboard. Even a device as small as a nib can quickly and accurately locate which production line it is currently on, which device it has tested on, and which cell phone it is ultimately used on. Once the problem is found, it will be intercepted for the first time, ensuring the quality of the phone. Under such specifications, the yield rate of SMT center production motherboards is more than 99.9%, which is the leading level in the entire industry.

Before you get R15, they have to abuse tens of thousands of times before
After going through the production process, R15 also needs to enter the QE laboratory to undergo various rigorous tests. This is a routine sample check of the mobile phone from the sample to the product and the mass production. Through the experiment, the quality control of the mobile phone is controlled. Roller drop test, equivalent to a mobile phone dropped at a random height of 1m 300 times, requires that the function of the phone can not be invalid, decoration parts and shells must not have dropped and cracked; repeated drop test, at a height of 10cm, the positive of the phone On the other hand, they fell 20,000 times each time. Each side dropped 4,000 times. Each mobile phone dropped 56,000 times in total. During the drop process, there were no functional failures and the dropping of components and decorative parts, and checking whether there were structural aspects inside the mobile phone. The damage; button click test, click the phone side button 100,000 times with 1KG force, in the process of clicking the button is not allowed to feel bad, button no function, button breaks and other abnormalities, the number of fingerprint keystrokes reached 1 million times. There is also a twist test, headphone and USB plug test, a 1.8m 10-round drop test, and environmental tests such as high temperature, high humidity, and rain.

In the drop test, the spot inspection machine needs to perform a drop test of dropping each face twice (for a total of 12 times), 1 time for each side (12 times in total) and 2 times for each corner (1 in total) at a height of 1 meter. It is used to verify the resistance of the double-sided glass material R15. In addition, the tester also simulated more actual detection of the user's actual use scene. For example, the sampling machine was brought to the street, parking lot, runway and other actual scenes to perform drop test. It is possible to restore scenarios that users actually use.

In the safety testing process, QE lab engineers added tests under extreme conditions, such as intentionally splitting the glass of the R15, and then free-falling the split cell phone, free-falling steel balls, and cone strikes. Test such as playing, using these limit tests to ensure the safety of users.

After visiting the production line, we learned from the communication with the staff that OPPO's production system had one of the most powerful departments, the Quality Department. They exist independently and are not affected by the pressure of shipments. They can suspend shipments, suspend production, and have "one-vote veto power."
They have a unique set of sign theory: “Quality is the sign in front of reputation, the quality is good, and the more you do it, the louder the name is, the poorer the quality is the negative sign, and the more you sell, the worse your reputation is. The personnel of this department are the chief procurators of every aspect of mobile phone production and the people who are most familiar with mobile phones.Each employee of the quality department must not only be familiar with product quality inspection skills, quality improvement methods and tools that are higher than international standards, but also be familiar with them. The company’s product performance, process, and manufacturing process must also be familiar with the expertise of new projects and new products.The quality department runs through all the processes from material selection to quality verification in mobile phones, and is selfless, never tolerated, and will not leave problems to the next Links."
Including R15, each OPPO machine has four rounds of trial production before it is put on the market for various experiments. Basically, tens of thousands of machines were destroyed before each machine reached the mass production standard until it was listed.
It is precisely because of the stringent requirements imposed on the entire production process that ultimately makes OPPO products can lead in quality. In the “China Mobile Terminal Quality Report†last year, OPPO R11s ranked first in terms of both communication capabilities and product availability in two separate tests after communication capabilities, multimedia capabilities, product availability, and user-friendliness. It became the first place in the price list for the price list of 2000-3000 yuan. The OPPO R15 not only experienced the same rigorous testing procedures as the R11s, but also added new processes for some new features. It seems that the R15 will be even better than the R11s in quality.
