Nokia and DOCOMO jointly promote 5G cooperation in 2020 commercial is expected to be commercial
Recently, Nokia signed a 5G cooperation with Japanese operator DOCOMO to support NTT DOCOMO's commercial 5G service in Japan. Nokia will supply 5G BBU (baseband processing unit) for NTT DOCOMO, which will enable commercial use in 2020.
Nokia recently announced the signing of a 5G baseband product supply agreement with NTT DOCOMO, Japan's largest mobile operator, to help NTT DOCOMO launch 5G commercial services in 2020.
It is understood that Nokia will support NTT DOCOMO's commercial 5G services in Japan by further strengthening existing baseband units and integrating its 5G NR*-based AirScale hardware into the network. Nokia's solution will enable NTT DOCOMO's existing 4G network to evolve naturally and integrate successfully into the existing business environment, thereby achieving the goal of NTT DOCOMO launching 5G commercial services in 2020.
Previously, Nokia and NTT DOCOMO had carried out the implementation and implementation of related technologies, products and applications in 3G and 4G/LTE networks, and also jointly carried out 5G technology experiments. At present, the two parties have reached an agreement again that Nokia will supply 5G BBU (baseband processing unit) for NTT DOCOMO, aiming at centralized management of 5G RRH (remote radio unit) deployed in 5G network.
Under the agreement, Nokia will provide technology based on the new 3GPP 5G NR standard (the first phase of the standard was completed by the end of 2017) to help NTT DOCOMO evolve from 4G/LTE networks to 5G networks.
