Vishay's new surface mount ambient light sensing photodiodes are the industry's first devices to comply with the automotive standard AEC Q101; they have a linear response to illumination from 0.1 lux to 100 klux.
Vishay expands its optoelectronics portfolio with the industry's first AEC Q101-compliant ambient light sensing photodiode. The AEC Q101 standard is a reliability testing certification program for discrete semiconductors issued by the Automotive Electronics Association.
Ambient light sensors are key components for automotive body control and passenger safety applications, enabling electronic systems to detect and respond to light in a human-like manner, eliminating the need for manual adjustments and reducing power consumption. These sensors are typically used to conveniently perform an on, off, or adjustment function to conserve battery power or provide greater security. Their automotive applications include rainy days, lighting and tunnel sensors; brightness control of dashboards and navigation displays; and automatic opening of headlights in dim conditions.
The new TEMD6010FX01 and TEMD5510FX01 feature Vishay's unique infrared-filtered epoxy technology that matches the spectral sensitivity of the human eye to the lowest sensitivity to light outside the visible range. They also offer the advantage of a very similar response to incandescent and fluorescent lamps. For both lights, the TEMD6010FX01 and TEMD5510FX01 offer excellent response ratios of 1.3 and 1.4 respectively. In contrast, the standard silicon infrared photodiode has a response ratio of 10
With excellent batch-to-batch repeatability over the extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +100°C, the TEMD6010FX01 and TEMD5510FX01 provide a linear response to illumination from 0.1 lux to 100 klux. Batch-to-batch repeatability eliminates the need for customers to calibrate during manufacturing. Other sensors competing with this cannot match this linear response at temperature extremes, especially temperatures above +85 °C.
These new sensors incorporate Vishay's existing line of ambient light sensing phototransistors, which also comply with the AEC Q101 standard. Both products are RoHS compliant, halogen free and compatible with lead (Pb) free soldering. Samples of these devices are available now with a lead time of 6 weeks.
