OSRAM launches LEDs for automotive lighting with minimal and high power
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors presents the smallest prototype of the high-power LED - Oslon Compact LED in the automotive market. This compact LED layout makes it easier to implement a variety of personalized headlight designs that are more cost effective. The new Oslon Compact is capable of all front lighting functions.
Despite the high efficiency, high luminous intensity and high durability of LEDs, it still faces great challenges when used as a headlight source. This is because different regions must use different LEDs to achieve even distribution of the illuminated surface. A lot of manpower and financial resources are needed to carry out precise design.
The new Oslon Compact package is extremely small in size, and with its high light output, all of these automotive front-view lighting applications can be achieved with this LED alone. For example, the spotlights in the headlights can be arbitrarily arranged and custom designs can be developed, giving each model a unique look. The small size of the Oslon Compact LED means that the LEDs can be closely spaced, so it can also be used in light guiding solutions and adaptive steering headlamp systems (AFS).
This LED has a minimalist design and contains only basic elements, so the look is very compact. The entire LED package is not much larger than the actual light-emitting surface of the chip. Its platform is OSRAM Opto Semiconductors' advanced UX:3 chip technology, which achieves high light efficiency even at high currents. The prototype exhibited at this Vision exhibition is only 1.5x1.9 mm2 and can output 200 lm of luminous flux at 700 mA. The clear white light of the chip is made by converting blue light through ceramics.
