TI Introduces Industry's First 65V Synchronous Buck Converter Supporting Fly-Buck Capabilities

Texas Instruments has introduced the industry's first 65V synchronous buck converter that provides up to 15W of isolated bias supply without the need for an optocoupler. As part of TI's innovative Fly-Buck power portfolio, the LM5160A increases power density and addresses higher power requirements in industrial and automotive applications in a more efficient and reliable manner. These applications include: three-phase AC motor drives, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), smart metering, renewable energy or grid infrastructure, factory automation, Power over Ethernet (POE) IP cameras and electric vehicles. The LM5160A converter features constant on-time control without loop compensation and high step-down ratios with fast transient response. This innovative converter with a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 65V can generate positive or negative biased power rails in a non-isolated design, or generate single or multiple isolated outputs while minimizing the solution size. In addition, this converter simplifies the design work compared to traditional flyback solutions. Used in conjunction with TI's award-winning WEBENCH® online design tool, the LM5160A accelerates time-to-market for high-power DC/DC designs.

Key features and benefits of the LM5160A:

The 4.5V to 65V input voltage range allows the converter to operate efficiently under fast transient conditions without the need for an input clamp circuit for high reliability.

· Constant on-time control provides fast transient response and uses a smaller number of components.

• Programmable soft-start reduces inrush current when powering heavy or large capacitors.

• Internal ±1% voltage reference and VOUT error correction improve accuracy over the line, load and temperature range.

Clean ability
As metal mesh features accurate pore openings, blinding and plugging are significantly reduced. This, combined with the enhanced flow rate, means system operators can clean the metal mesh easily. These two properties allow the mesh filter to be backflushed and purged of any unwanted debris with minimal pressure.
