What is an LED display?
The LED display refers to a display in which LEDs ( light-emitting diodes ) are directly used as pixel light-emitting elements, and the light-emitting diodes constituting the array directly emit light of three colors of red, green and blue, thereby forming a color picture. However, since the diameter of the light-emitting diode itself is large, the distance between the pixels of the same color is also large (that is, the dot pitch as we often say), so the LED display is generally only suitable for large-screen display.
LED display is widely used in the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games. LED display integrates microelectronic technology, computer technology and information processing. It has become the most popular with its bright color, wide dynamic range, high brightness, long life and stable and reliable operation. The public display media with advantages, at present, LED displays have been widely used in large squares, commercials, sports venues, information dissemination, securities trading, etc., to meet the needs of different environments.
What is an LED backlit display?
LED-backlit displays are simply backlights for liquid crystal displays that are over-extended to LEDs (light-emitting diodes) by conventional CCFL cold-light tubes (like fluorescent lamps).
Basic structure of the liquid crystal panel
The imaging principle of liquid crystal can be simply understood as that the external voltage is applied to deflect the liquid crystal molecules to block the transparency of the light emitted by the backlight, and the light is projected into the color filters of different colors to form an image.
The transition of the backlight module from CCFL to LED can bring a lot of benefits, which can make the brightness of the display screen more uniform, the power consumption of the product is lower, and the shape can be thinner and lighter. However, W-LED (white LED) backlights are commonly used in the market. In fact, such backlights only replace the components that emit light, and the display effect is very weak or not improved. The RGB-LED (three-color LED), which has an obvious improvement in the display performance of the liquid crystal product, is applied to a high-priced LCD TV because of its high production cost.
At present, the LED display referred to by the merchant refers to a display product using a white LED backlight, and the difference from the ordinary liquid crystal display is the change of the source.
What is OLED?
Many readers are confused about the next-generation display technology OLED and LED or LED backlight. The author will introduce some basic knowledge of OLED.
OLED is the abbreviation of English Organic Light-Emitting Diode, which is called organic light-emitting diode or organic light-emitting display. In fact, this principle of luminescence was discovered as early as 1936, but it was not until 1987 that Kodak introduced the OLED double-layer device that OLEDs attracted attention as a commercially available and excellent flat panel display technology. At present, more than 100 research units and enterprises in the world have invested in the research and development and production of OLEDs, including display giants on the market, such as Samsung, LG, Philips, Sony and other companies. On the whole, the industrialization of OLED has begun, among which monochromatic, multi-color and color devices have reached the level of mass production, and large-size full-color devices are still in the research and development stage.
OLED display device
Many netizens are easy to associate OLED with LED backlights that are currently hyped by manufacturers. In fact, OLED and LED backlights are completely different display technologies. The OLED is driven by the current driving organic film itself, and the emitted light can be a single color such as red, green, blue, white, etc., and the full color effect can also be achieved. So OLED is a new lighting principle different from CRT, LED and liquid crystal technology.
The luminescence mechanism of OLED is: under the driving of external voltage, the electrons and holes injected by the electrode recombine in the organic material to release energy, and transfer the energy to the molecules of the organic luminescent substance, the latter is excited and transition from the ground state. To the excited state, the radiation transition occurs when the excited molecule returns to the ground state to produce a luminescence phenomenon. (First LED net tip: What is a hole? An electrically neutral atom whose number of positive and negative electrons is equal. Now because there is one negative electron, there will be A positive vacancy, this is a hole.)
