VIA controller certified cheap USB3.0 U disk popularity in sight

VIA controller certified Inexpensive USB3.0 U disk popularity in sight VIA Technologies, Inc. today announced that its VIA Labs VL750 USB 3.0 NAND flash controller has been officially certified by the USB Standards Organization: USB Application Forum (USB-IF) as the world's first certified native USB 3.0 flash drive controller Chip products.

Launched in September this year, the VL750 is compatible with the traditional Bulk-Only Transport (BOT) USB high-capacity transfer protocol and the newer version of the new USB Attached SCSI Protocol (UASP) protocol. The chip can be used with 30nm or 20nm NAND flash memory chips and can control up to 32 flash memories. The load balancing technology can extend the life of flash memory and support ECC error checking. Supports four-way read/write, cross-read and write functions, and a maximum transfer speed of 100MB/s or more. It is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 specifications, and the maximum transfer speed is 35MB/s in USB 2.0 mode.

Since the USB 3.0 interface is natively provided, the U-disk product using the VL750 solution eliminates the need for a dual-chip solution using a flash controller and a bridge chip, enabling the U-disk design to be miniaturized, with lower power consumption and lower cost. Currently, SuperTalent has launched a USBGB flash disk with an 8GB capacity of US$14. After the listing of the VL750 solution, this record is expected to be broken again.

After obtaining USB-IF certification, U-Board products using the VL750 chip will be able to mark the USB SuperSpeed upright. However, at present, the VL750 is still in the sample shipment stage, and volume production still needs to wait.
