Data show that consumers want to combine shopping with VR
The management consulting company LEK Consulting recently released a report introducing more than 1,000 early adopters customers about the preferences and desires of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in business and shopping.
The results of the report indicate that the best method at present is to integrate VR and AR technologies with traditional physical stores. 78% of early adopters are keen to use virtual reality test products or conduct virtual "shopping trips" with friends or relatives who may live in different cities or even different countries. Some companies, such as Lowe, The Gap, and Alibaba, have begun adopting this approach gradually. The report calls it "V-commerce."
Dan McKone, Managing Director of LEK, stated: "V-commerce brings a whole new shopping experience and new potential for added value. But retailers are at risk, initial investment is important, and it takes a lot of trial and error to cost. Need to do what they do, such as point the direction for consumers."
The vast majority of interviewed customers stated that they wanted to use VR or AR technology to "try" new clothing brands, or to look at the appearance of new furniture at home, similar to the products developed by IKEA and Apple. There is also a high demand for applications that allow customization options within VR, such as Meitu's Makeup Counter AR application, which allows customers to design a perfect makeup look before purchasing.
LEK managing director Rob Haslehurst said: “For retailers, the appeal is obvious. These technologies are what retailers want, create compelling shopping experiences, and communicate with them.â€
