Toronto invites expressions of interest in Lightsavers project

Following its successful LEDiscovery event, Toronto is calling for LED lighting companies to participate in a new pilot project. The City of Toronto is requesting responses from LED and adaptive lighting control technology (ALT) manufacturers who wish to be considered for participation in the Toronto Atmospheric Fund LightSavers Low Carbon Lighting Technologies Pilot Project.
Interested parties can download the Expression of Interest document. The closing date for submissions is July 30, 2008.
The City of Toronto website says, "The LightSavers program of the Toronto Atmospheric Fund (TAF) will work to stimulate market transformation for outdoor lighting. This lighting sector represents a significant opportunity to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the Deployment of new technology, such as the use of LED lamps and intelligent lighting system controls.
The technologies may reduce GHG emissions associated with lighting installations in pedestrian, park and parking areas by up to 70 percent. LightSavers will combine grants, green procurement, innovative financing and market research to build market awareness and advance the use of LED luminaires and ALT across The Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Through the LightSavers program, TAF is developing a consortium of municipalities, agencies, boards, commissions and institutions committed to testing the technology, performance and business case for LED and ALT solutions."
As reported in the recent TAF newsletter, "From daily light shows on the CN Tower to the traffic lights on Toronto streets, LEDs are proving to be an effective tool in reducing GHG emissions from lighting. With generous support from Natural Resources Canada and the Ontario Power Authority's Technology Development Fund, TAF recently launched LightSavers , a GTA-wide program to advance low carbon lighting solutions.
